About Us
East Tennessee Riding Club was founded at the end of WWII when Oak Ridge was the "Secret City". To keep residents residing behind fences happy, the government granted use of unused vacant property and club members converted old warehouses into a barn and clubhouse for local equestrians to bond with their horse and build a community.
In 1958, the government decided to sell the property to Oak Ridge residents and it is now owned by all the members of the East Tennessee Riding Club. As the only member owned barn in the nation, the club is overseen by board of 8 elected members. Barn business is taken care of through monthly meeting and there are work days each month to share the work of maintaining the property.
This unique set up allows horse owners of all budget levels to own a horse, have full control of their horse's care, and be a part of a horse loving community. The barn is full of members of all riding levels with the more experienced members mentoring the next generation of riders. Only barn members or their guests are allowed to ride on the property. As this is a private club, we do not offer lessons to non-members.
